What is a multi-genre research project?
A multi-genre research project (MGP) presents multiple perspectives on a single topic in order to provide a rich and appealing product for an audience. As you work on this project, keep in mind that you will be creating pieces of writing for a particular audience - your readers. As you explore how to write in many different genres, you will get to know your topic in great depth.
We will be working on this project for most of the third quarter of the school year. We will be learning about different writing genres and how to choose the genre that best fits our purpose for writing and our audience. We will discover how to research a topic and how to find high quality resources to fuel our writing. We will look at the differences between print and digital sources, as well as print versus digital writing.
Your writing will be displayed in a final presentation given in the format of a school-wide Writing Fair. There will be guidelines and due dates for each piece of writing throughout the project. Most of the work will be done in class.
